Tilburg loves bicycles. The 'Tilburg loves cycling' campaign encourages residents and visitors to bike around Tilburg. The city has a substantial network of cycle paths, known as the star net-route or 'the red cycle paths', which criss-cross their way through the city. Wherever possible, cyclists are given right of way or are taken underneath busy roads by cycle tunnels.
The network enables students to cycle to the university quickly and safely. Shopping in the city centre or at one of the markets is easy by bicycle. There are plenty of cycle sheds staffed by attendants where you can leave your bicycle safely. You can find these both in the city centre and at the railway stations.
Public transport is well-organized in Tilburg. Fast bus connections ensure that you can travel to the various parts of the city within minutes. A dynamic passenger information system lets travellers know exactly when the various buses are expected at each bus stop.
The municipality is building a new bus station to the north of the Central Station, where it is developing a new 'Railway Zone' (Spoorzone).
Clearly, Tilburg invests heavily in accessibility. And that includes virtual accessibility! The digital highway is an integral part of our city. That is why the municipality will make sure that as many homes as possible are connected to broadband Internet over the next few years, so that residents can visit every part of the world in an instant from behind their computers.
