Austria draws with France

Austria draws with France

Austria ended the preparation for the upcoming 2010 IIHF World Championship Division I Group A with a 3-3 draw against France. The French team came back from a 3-1 deficit in the third period.

Austria did get enough chances to extended their lead but did not succeed. Halfway through the period France scored the equalizer. Laurent Gras beat goalie Reinhard Divis with a shot from the blue line.

Near the end of the second period Austria regained the lead, when France got into penalty trouble. Austria took a 3-1 lead by scoring twice on the powerplay. Fist Oliver Setzinger scored at the 35.45 mark. A few minutes later, Thomas Raffl made the third Austrian goal with two Frenchmen in the penalty box.

Still France was able to come back from this deficit in the third period. The important second goal came early. Erwan Pain was the goalscorer for Dave Henderson's team. After Pain's goal, Austria got a couple of chances to decide this game, but Bill Gilligan's team failed to score the fourth goal. Nine minutes before the end of the game youngster Da Costa tied the game at 3-3. In the remaining minutes both teams did not score.

Austria will begin the 2010 IIHF World Championship Division I Group A on Monday against Serbia. The match against the promoted Serbs will start at 17.00 hours.
