Hideki Ueno deflected the puck in front of netminder Milan Lukovic for the opening goal.

It took Japan 29 minutes before scoring the second goal despite outshooting Serbia. At the end Japan got 41 shots against 18 for Serbia. The second goal came halfway through the game when Yoshinuri Imura tallied shorthanded: 2-0. In the remaining minutes Japan extended the lead. Goals from Masahito Nishiwaki and Tesuya Saito made it 4-0 going into the third period.

After six minutes into the third, Sho Sato put up the fifth and last goal of the game. Serbia tried to get their first goal of the tournament but they did not succeed. Japanese goalie Masahito Haruna therefore got the shutout in his first game in Tilburg.
