Ukraine crushes Netherlands

Ukraine outclassed hosts Netherlands with a 9-2 victory. Kostiantyn Kasianchuk and Artem Bondariev both scored twice. Andrei Mikhnov tallied one goal and three assists.

Ukraine stays on course and has already scored 21 goals in the first two games. Against Holland it took three minutes before Oleksandr Matvichuk beat Phil Groeneveld: 1-0. Netherlands created a couple of chances but the lead for Ukraine was never in danger. Goals from Kostiantyn Kasianschuk and Artem Bondariev extended their lead to 3-0.

In the second period Ukraine kept on scoring. Within eight minutes Ukraine tallied three times. Captain Vadym Shakhraychuk scored twice and Kasianschuk added his second of the night. Kasianchuk also scored twice in the opener against Lithuania.

The sixth goal also ended the game for Dutch goalie Phil Groeneveld. He was replaced by coach Tommie Hartogs. Therefore local hero Ian Meierdres got his first minutes of the tournament.

After 36 minutes the home crowd could finally cheer for the first time. Peter van Biezen scored his first goal during a World Championship. Van Biezen scored after Konstiantyn Simchuk gave away a rebound on a powerful shot from Mike Dalhuisen. The Dutch goal was scored with two players from Ukraine in the penalty box.

The home crowd was silenced shortly after the goal when Denis Isayenko made it 7-1 by scoring a shorthanded goal.

Ukraine was able to score twice in the final period. Artem Bondariev, his second goal in this game, and Dmytro Nimenko tallied for Ukraine. Nick de Jong gave his home crowd one more reason to cheer. The defender first kept the puck in the attacking zone. Then de Jong beat Simchuk with a low shot.
