Serbia surprisingly took the lead in their encounter with Ukraine. The favorites made up for this with a goal fest in the remainder of the game. Final score: 15-2
The game started with a couple of surprises. First up, Serbia kept Ukraine from scoring in the opening phase of the match. Secondly, after seven minutes Boris Gabric struck on behalf of his team. He fired a shot from the neutral zone that surprisingly went in the net of Vadim Seliverstov's shoulder. The third surprise was that Serbia managed to hold Ukraine to a 1-1 tie after the first period, with just Andrei Sriubko finding the net with a blast from the blue line.

That was the end of the surprises, as Ukraine ran away to a 7-1 lead in the second period and added eight goals in the third. Serbia scored one more goal. Alexander Materukhin had three goals for Ukraine, while Alexander Matvichuk, Vadim Shakraychuk and Kostantin Kasianchuk each tallied twice.

The win means Ukraine now have nine points from three games and stay in the race for promotion. They will be watching the afternoon-game between Austria and Japan, the other unbeaten teams in the tournament, with interest. Serbia can look forward to games against Lithuania and the Netherlands, where further surprises could be possible.
