The Netherlands reached their goal by claiming the fourth place in this tournament. The Netherlands had all kinds of trouble beating Serbia in the final game. Marcel Kars scored the winning goal in overtime.
The game started off very well for the Netherlands. After seven minutes the team of coach Tommie Hartogs was leading 2-0. Marcel Kars opened the score after four mintes. Three minutes later Casey Vanschagen doubled the Dutch lead with his first of the tournament.
Holland did get the opportunity to extend the lead further. But it was Serbia that scored their first goal after fifteen minutes. Defensemen Filip Markovic made it 2-1 with a shot in the top left corner.
After 35.14, Serbia surprisingly tied the game. It was Filip Markovic again for Serbia: 2-2. At that moment Serbia already had to accept relegation. To avoid relegation, Serbia had to beat Holland with a margin of five goals.

Still Serbia was the better team in the third and got a couple of big chances to grab the lead. Serbia failed to convert these chances so overtime was needed to point out a winner.
Holland got the game-winning goal after three minutes of overtime. Star player Mike Dalhuisen skated into the attack zone and found Marcel Kars in front of goalie Milan Lukovic. The Serbian goalie stopped the first shot but Kars scored on the rebound.
The Netherlands will finish fourth thanks to this victory in overtime. The last couple of years the Netherlands could not reach higher than the fifth place. Serbia will have to say goodbye to Division I after one year. Lithuania will end in fifth place after Holland's win.
